Equity in Education ProgramAs a 1994 Tribal Land Grant College, United Tribes Technical College offers the Nutrition and Foodservice Associate Degree Program. The Nutrition and Foodservice (NF) program provides theory and hands-on experience in healthful food preparation, food science, food safety, wellness and community nutrition. Students are advised to follow one of two degree plans. The plans focus either on nutrition and wellness or foodservice/culinary arts depending on the individual student's interest. In the fall of the second year, students will be encouraged to write a national exam which will allow them to be credentialed as Certified Dietary Managers (CDM). Although the degree prepares students for employment, they may also successfully transfer into programs of advanced training to become a dietitian or chef. After graduating from the NF program, students are prepared for employment in settings such as school lunch, WIC, diabetes/wellness programs, hospital or elderly care foodservice, and casino kitchens or private resturaunts. Many American Indian people have health problems relating to poor nutrition and a lack of knowledge regarding food selection and preparation. By graduating from UTTC's Nutrition and Foodservice program, you will be a nutrition professional trained to make a positive impact on these health concerns and ultimately improve the health and balance of life for American Indian people. UTTC is now offering online courses in Nutrition and Foodservice. As of Fall 2003, all face-to-face classes have been converted to the online version allowing the learner to achieve their degree online! |
